OVERVIEW
Chase
Apparels was started in June 1988 by Prakash Morriswala, with encouragement
from his uncle Ranjit Solanki, in partnership with Peter Farrell
and Bill Huggard from New Zealand. Prior to this Morriswala was
involved in clothing retailing and small-scale manufacturing, and
screen printing of T-shirts and resort wear.
The
company started with only 20 staff, with the expectation that numbers
would grow to about 50-70 staff. But Chase Apparels was to grow
faster than expected after an influx of New Zealand and Australian
orders in 1989 - it soon had 100 staff and was producing 10,000
garments a week.
Morriswala
is now the sole owner of Chase Apparels, having bought out his fellow
shareholders, and has set up a sister company, Surftech Clothing,
in Brisbane, Australia, as the company grows and continues to produce
top quality brand name garments for the Australian and New Zealand
markets.
